What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
CBT provides clients with practical and powerful skills that can be applied over a lifetime to reduce discomfort and improve everyday functioning. Since thoughts and perceptions generate emotions and behavior, CBT (or cognitive restructuring) re-frames thinking to modify emotions and behavior. Furthermore, CBT utilizes different behavioral strategies to help functioning, including autogenic, extinction and relaxation training; biofeedback; hypnosis; systematic desensitization; graded flooding.

How long does treatment last?
The length of treatment varies depending upon each individual. However, CBT is a shorter-term therapy because it deals with the present and works aggressively to treat unwanted behaviors.

What kind of treatment is right for me?
Every individual's treatment is different. The type, length and frequency of treatment is determined by the therapist and patient together.

Does insurance cover my treatment?
Many insurance companies reimburse for treatment; although each individual plan is different. So you must check with your individual carrier: 1. If your individual plan reimburses for mental health services, and if Behavioral Associates -- or Dr. Robert Reiner -- is on their provider list, treatment is considered "in network." You’re only responsible for the co-payment. 2. If your insurance reimburses for mental health services, and if Behavioral Associates -- or Dr. Reiner -- is not on their provider list, we ask for payment at the time of service. We'll help you fill out the forms to facilitate reimbursement. 3. If your insurance does not cover treatment, we offer a sliding scale based on your financial situation.

What are the fees?
Behavioral Associates uses a sliding fee scale, which ranges from $100-$400 based on insurance coverage, your financial situation and the practitioner you see for treatment.

Can I come more than once a week?
We offer sessions as frequently as needed; however, some insurance companies only reimburse for once-a-week sessions.

What are the qualifications of the therapists?
The staff consists of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, certified psychiatric social workers and students working toward their doctoral degrees. Dr. Reiner, the executive director, is a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology.

Can the therapists prescribe medication?
Only medical doctors can prescribe medications. Our psychiatrists will prescribe medication only if it is deemed necessary and agreed to by you.

What is biofeedback?
Biofeedback (or physiologic feedback) uses a computerized electronic measurement device to monitor muscle activity or blood flow, and "feedback" information about your physiology. Neurofeedback improves concentration and general well-being to aid in treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorders, and depression.

What types of problems do you treat?
Anxiety and phobias; obsessive compulsive disorder; depression; insomnia; eating disorders; relationship or marital difficulties; sexual problems; drug, tobacco and alcohol abuse; chronic irritability or excessive anger; unwanted repetitive habits (nail biting, pulling hair, tics); stress related medical problems (headache, hypertension, palpitations, TMJ, Raynaud's syndrome); childhood problems (hyperactivity, bedwetting, school phobias, depression, anxiety); career assessment counseling; loss and bereavement counseling; fertility counseling; public speaking phobias; psychophysiological ailments; attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
